Planning is good and necessary, but at some point you have to execute on it or else it’s just dreaming. Here four easy steps that will get you there!
Commit. If you tell someone you create the situation of having to explain yourself if nothing happens or you fail to make progress. Go the extra mile. Be intentional about who you tell. Select someone who you know will encourage you but also not let you off the hook to easy. Ask them to hold you accountable by asking you for updates.
Create goals. Review your plan and set goals based on the end result you hope to achieve. Start with the end in mind. What is the ultimate result you want to achieve? What does it look like? Describe what it looks like in detail. From there, work backwards to list the steps it will take to get there including how long each one will take. Rearrange and edit until you have your steps and goals in order with completion dates. These are your goals. Take each one individually and create a list of action items for it. Each action item should be a single, bite-size item.
Take action. You have your blueprint. Now focus in on the first step or goal and start working through the action items one at a time. Transfer the action items you will be working on each week to your tracking method of choice. It could be a note card or an app on your phone, whatever works for you.
Celebrate your accomplishments along the way. Each week you will see steady progress. Stop and pat yourself on the back. Share your successes with your accountability pal. Recognizing success as you go energizes you and creates a self-motivating cycle of inspiration that will keep you moving toward your destination.
